Chii Yang was born in Taiwan. He came to the United States when he was 14 years old, and studied cello at the Julliard Music School in New York City. Upon graduating from high school, he went to State University of New York in Buffalo and pursued two bachelor degrees—one in engineering of physics and the other in music—as well as a master degree in electrical engineering. While in college, he came to know the Lord and became a Christian. As he grew in the faith and became involved in church ministries, he sensed God’s calling to full-time ministry when he attended a missions conference. He obtained Master of Divinity at Ontario Theological Seminary in Canada and Master of Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Illinois. Upon graduation, Chii served as an English pastor in a Chinese church. Through these years of ministry, God confirmed to him the gift and burden for teaching. He then went to Fuller Theological Seminary in Southern California and began his PhD Study in the New Testament.
From 2008 to 2012, Chii was a lecturer at Christian Witness Theological Seminary and taught New Testament classes and Greek. He met many students who came from Mainland China. Through the interaction with the students, he became to know more about the thoughts, culture, lifestyle and needs of the younger Chinese generation. In 2012 God led Chii to serve at Lord’s Grace Christian Church, particularly in Mandarin young adult ministries (half-time). His passion is to equip the leaders, build up the believers, and to guide seekers to faith in Christ. While teaching at the seminary, he rekindled his passion for music and saw the importance of music ministry as he played cello in many chapel gatherings. Right now Chii also serves in the Mandarin worship team, and he prays that God would use his music to draw people into a spiritual and intimate worship of God.
Chii met Tammy at the Chinese church in Buffalo, and they were married in 1994. They have two children, Moshe and Karis. In his spare time, Chii likes to play board games with the kids, go camping, and watch ballgames.
